Leave a commentExercise during pregnancy is extremely beneficial to the mum-to-be as well as the little one in the tummy. But what kind of exercises should one perform? Make sure to include exercises that cater to:
1. Posture & Alignment: As you progress through the trimesters, you grow disproportionately (especially, in the anterior or front portion of your body). Postural correction exercises will help reduce aches and pains in the spine as well as legs.
2. Balance: Performing exercises to continuously improve balance reduces dizziness and chances of a fall.
3. Spine mobility: Exercises to help relax and stretch as well as strengthen the upper and lower back helps during pregnancy as well as in the postnatal stage.
4. Cardiovascular endurance: Walking, swimming, cycling - all help improve cardiovascular fitness which in turn aids endurance during labour and reduces chances of swelling.
5. Stretching: Due to the extra weight the body is carrying around, the muscles tend to cramp and get tighter. Stretching the hamstrings, calves and IT Band goes a long way.
6. Breathing: Breathing exercises help calm your nerves during pregnancy and labour, and performing them correctly will ultimately help pushing the baby out during delivery.
So include exercises that cater to the above specified areas so as to gain maximum benefit from your intelligent workout.
